JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT

In the early 2000s, the club underwent a major shift in focus – prioritising junior development as the pathway to becoming a true powerhouse club. The vision was led by the late Mick Murphy (RIP), whose passion laid the foundations for what would become a defining pillar of Burleigh Boardriders.

Following Jay “Bottle” Thompson’s qualification for the Championship Tour, it became clear that the next step in the club’s evolution was to develop our juniors into the best versions of themselves – both as surfers and as people – with a clear, supported pathway into competitive surfing.

Burleigh Boardriders offers junior surfers opportunities found nowhere else – it’s not just about coaching, but ensuring each surfer feels supported in every aspect of their journey.

Weekly coaching is run by some of the best in the business, incorporating video analysis, heat strategy, and performance feedback. Whether juniors are aiming for competition or simply personal growth, they’re backed by a tight-knit and collaborative team culture.

Today, we can confidently say we have the best juniors in the country and we’ll continue to foster and develop the next generation of Burleigh surfers for years to come.

We’re not guessing – we’ve built it.
